Nachhaltig einkaufen im Supermarkt: Erfahrungen und Tipps für umweltbewusste Konsument*innen
Für uns ging es kürzlich zum Einkaufen in den Edeka-Markt in Friedberg, einem Supermarkt, der sich der Nachhaltigkeit verschrieben hat. Hier geht es nicht nur ums Einkaufen, sondern auch um bewusstes Handeln für die Umwelt. Von innovativen Strukturen zur Reduzierung von Lebensmittelverschwendung und Verpackungsmüll bis hin zur Förderung regionaler Produkte – auch Supermärkte können Zeichen für eine nachhaltige Zukunft setzen.
Energie sinnvoll nutzen
Eine der beeindruckendsten Initiativen, die inzwischen viele Supermärkte umsetzen, ist das Thema Wärmerückgewinnung. Durch den Einsatz eines intelligenten Kühlverbunds wird nicht nur der Innenbereich gekühlt, sondern auch überschüssige Wärme aufgefangen und in den Laden geleitet. Dadurch kann im Winter geheizt sowie Wasser erwärmt werden. Ergänzend dazu werden Photovoltaik-Anlagen auf dem Dach, sowie energieeffiziente LED-Beleuchtung im gesamten Laden installiert, um den Energieverbrauch weiter zu senken und erneuerbare Energie zu nutzen.
Verpackungsmüll vermeiden
Ein Blick auf die Verpackungen zeigt den nachhaltigen Ansatz: Über 90% der Obst- und Gemüseprodukte werden in Mehrwegtransportboxen geliefert, während bei Konserven, Lebensmitteln und Drogerieprodukten überwiegend recyclingfähige Papp- und Kartonverpackungen zum Einsatz kommen. Der Trend geht außerdem hin zu weniger Folienverpackungen, um Plastikmüll zu reduzieren. Der Friedberger Edeka unterstützt auch aktiv den Einsatz von wieder verwendbaren Behältern. Bei Metzgereiprodukten gilt beispielsweise das Angebot, seine eigene Brotzeitdose zum Befüllen mitzubringen, um die Verwendung von Einwegverpackungen zu vermeiden.
Regional, nachhaltig, lecker
Der Edeka-Markt legt großen Wert auf die Regionalität der Lebensmittel. Aktuell sind das Karotten, Kartoffeln, Spargel und Erdbeeren. Indem lokale Lebensmittel angeboten und gekauft werden, wird die örtliche Landwirtschaft unterstützt und zugleich der CO2-Fußabdruck durch den geringeren Transportaufwand reduziert.
Zusammengefasst lässt sich sagen: Es ist gar nicht so schwer, nachhaltige Strukturen in den Wocheneinkauf zu integrieren. Auch Supermärkte haben zahlreiche Möglichkeiten und nutzen diese immer mehr, ihre Strukturen ökologischer zu gestalten – und daran können wir als Konsumenten anknüpfen.
